abstract = "Catastrophic events ocurred in the Rio de Janeiro City,
February-1988, have caused many landslides at urban and forests
areas of Tijuca Massif. It was selected for the present study a
forested area with 40 landslides of different magnitude at Vista
Chinesa and Dona Castorina roads, southern slope of the Massif.
Previous morphometric analysis of the main 19 landslides have
shown they vary from 11 to +200 m length and from 5.5 to 48 m
width. Throught digital Spot-Pancromatic images analysis of
June-1988 only the four larger landslides scars could be
identifield, by using a contrast stretch and gray level slicing;
the smallest ones were already covered by adjacent tree canopy.
Next step is driven toward to a comparison with more recent images
to evaluate the time required for phyto-geomorphic regeneration of
landslide scars.",
